Product Description

Constructed of simple birch wood frames and discarded parachute webbing because of wartime material restrictions, the Collection exhibits Risom’s taste for well-crafted Scandinavian Modernism with streamlined curves and angles. Risom initially described his furniture as “very basic, very simple, inexpensive and easy to make.” The Risom Collection now includes four finishes — Clear Maple, Ebonized Maple, Light Walnut and Teak — along with a modern color palette of cotton webbing.

Jens Risom

Born in Denmark and educated at Copenhagen’s renowned School of Arts and Crafts, Jens Risom brought a distinctly Scandinavian sensibility to modern American furniture. After moving to New York in 1938, he met Hans Knoll and soon became the first designer to help shape Knoll’s early furniture identity.

As the creative force behind many of the brand’s inaugural pieces, Risom introduced a thoughtful, functional approach defined by simplicity, innovation, and efficient use of materials. His early designs laid the foundation for Knoll’s modernist legacy and secured his place as one of the most influential furniture designers of the twentieth century.
