Product Description

Jens Risom designed a complete line of simple modern chairs and tables that could be made locally. Risom’s approach was perfectly suited for the challenge: “Design is a creative effort to successfully solve problems; ‘good design,’ therefore, is a ‘good solution’ which must satisfy the many requirements.” Risom described the resulting furniture as “very basic, very simple, inexpensive, and easy to make.”

Solid teak frame with oiled finish, stainless steel staples	Upholstery in reinforced Sunbrella yarns
Sunbrella yarns are designed to stretch, are UV/fade resistant, water repellent, bleach cleanable and stain resistant	Teak will patina over time if left outdoors and will turn a silvery grey colour
Teak oil can be applied with a paint brush every three months to maintain rich colour

Designer

Jens Risom

Born in Denmark and educated at Copenhagen’s renowned School of Arts and Crafts, Jens Risom brought a distinctly Scandinavian sensibility to modern American furniture. After moving to New York in 1938, he met Hans Knoll and soon became the first designer to help shape Knoll’s early furniture identity.

As the creative force behind many of the brand’s inaugural pieces, Risom introduced a thoughtful, functional approach defined by simplicity, innovation, and efficient use of materials. His early designs laid the foundation for Knoll’s modernist legacy and secured his place as one of the most influential furniture designers of the twentieth century.
