The Risom Outdoor Coffee Table brings Jens Risom's original design sensibility into the outdoor context — the same honest, pared-down approach that defined the 1941 Knoll collection, re-engineered for life outside. The frame and top are solid oiled teak, which is naturally resistant to moisture, UV, and the general wear of outdoor use. Teak weathers to a silver-grey patina over time if left untreated, or can be maintained with periodic oiling to preserve its warm honey tone — either way, it holds up without requiring seasonal storage or protective covers.

Product Description

Jens Risom designed a complete line of simple modern chairs and tables that could be made locally. Risom’s approach was perfectly suited for the challenge: “Design is a creative effort to successfully solve problems; ‘good design,’ therefore, is a ‘good solution’ which must satisfy the many requirements.” Risom described the resulting furniture as “very basic, very simple, inexpensive, and easy to make.”

Jens Risom

Born in Denmark and educated at Copenhagen’s renowned School of Arts and Crafts, Jens Risom brought a distinctly Scandinavian sensibility to modern American furniture. After moving to New York in 1938, he met Hans Knoll and soon became the first designer to help shape Knoll’s early furniture identity.

As the creative force behind many of the brand’s inaugural pieces, Risom introduced a thoughtful, functional approach defined by simplicity, innovation, and efficient use of materials. His early designs laid the foundation for Knoll’s modernist legacy and secured his place as one of the most influential furniture designers of the twentieth century.
