Eero Sarineen’s Womb Settee channels the spirit of the master’s classic Womb Chair. The double-wide version of the chair was designed in 1948 for use in his landmark Warren, MI General Motors Technical Center, Saarinen’s first major commission. The form, achieved through sculpted resin, leveraged the technical expertise of Hudson Winner, a boat maker who worked with Saarinen and Florence Knoll to prototype many of the architect’s early designs. Knoll approached the original design with the benefit of updated molding techniques and materials, reintroducing the Model 73 Womb Settee after six decades.
