Founded in 1976 by Wolfgang and Ingrid Schroeter as Wolf Steel Ltd., a steel fabrication business in Barrie, Ontario, the company began with Wolfgang building wood burning stoves in his own garage — including one of the first with a glass door, letting the fire be seen. The Napoleon brand name arrived in 1995, when the company expanded into barbecue grills, inspired by Napoleon brandy rather than the French emperor. Napoleon is now the largest privately owned manufacturer of fireplaces, grills, and gas furnaces in North America. Napoleon's grills and outdoor kitchen appliances are available in Western Canada exclusively through Livingspace.
