From a Furniture Shop to a Design Institution

Founded in 1905 as Star Furniture Co., the Michigan company took its modern name in 1923 when D.J. De Pree and his father-in-law Herman Miller acquired majority ownership. Under design director George Nelson from 1944, Herman Miller recruited Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, and Alexander Girard, producing icons including the Eames Lounge Chair and the Aeron. Now part of MillerKnoll, Herman Miller's collections are available in Western Canada exclusively through Livingspace.
