Florence Knoll referred to the bench as a "fill-in piece," which is a modest label for an object that has become highly enduring. It exemplifies her geometric design approach: low, rectangular, and unadorned, set on a chrome base and fully upholstered for a polished look from all sides. The bench serves multiple functions— as a standalone at the foot of a bed, paired by a coffee table, or alongside lounge chairs and sofas from the same collection.
There are two versions: Relaxed features a wider, lower profile with a softer cushion for comfort, suitable for home use; Standard has a firmer, tightly upholstered cushion, sits slightly higher, and offers an architectural look, making it ideal for formal settings where form precision is emphasized.
