Charles and Ray Eames’s experiments in material innovation led them to pioneer the use of molded fiberglass to create an organically shaped, single-shell chair in 1950. This low, comfortable lounge chair offers just the right amount of give, with a deep, slightly angled seat and waterfall front edge to provide soft support. The wire base is nicknamed “cat’s cradle” for its intersecting forms, which provide stability as well as graphic interest.
